NTPC Limited Bongaigaon Wraps Up IRSM (ER-II) with Sporting Spirit

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium, NTPC Bongaigaon was the site of the final day of the four-day Eastern Region-II Intra Regional Sports Meet (IRSM) for volleyball and women’s badminton, which showcased excellent sportsmanship, friendship, and teamwork among participating teams.

Arnab Maitra, Head of Business Unit, NTPC Bongaigaon, was joined by  Anurag Gupta, General Manager (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of Human Resources, NTPC Bongaigaon, L. N. Meitei, Commandant, CISF, NTPC Bongaigaon, and other department heads, senior officials, and employees to inaugurate the event.

North Karanpura of Jharkhand, Talcher Thermal and Talcher Kaniha of Odisha, Darlipali of Assam, and NTPC Bongaigaon of Assam were the five teams that competed in the meet. Shri Arnab Maitra, speaking to the assembly, emphasised that the main purpose of the event was to foster a sense of unity and collaboration among the staff. He made the point that IRSM is still an important platform for fostering professional excellence and overall personal growth.

At the first event, each team marched magnificently past the stage, and the five captains lit ceremonial torches. The tournament trophy and the mascot “Puhor,” who represents light and is based on the renowned one-horned rhinoceros of Assam, were both unveiled at the occasion. The event also included the administration of a Fitness Pledge and a Fair Play Pledge.

Union and organization leaders, welfare body members, Ladies Club members, and residents of surrounding villages were among those in attendance, as were Shri Souvick Sen, General Secretary of the Sports Council at NTPC Bongaigaon, and Shri Bonthu Balaji, President of the Sports Council at NTPC Bongaigaon.

Participation and competitive spirit were high across all disciplines as the event came to a close. Talcher Thermal’s Ms. K.V.S. Prashanthi won the women’s badminton singles championship, with NTPC Bongaigaon’s Ms. Cheme Serdeon taking second place. The winning couple in the doubles category was the NTPC Bongaigaon duo of Sharmistha Gohain and Amrita Rai, with Talcher Thermal’s Dr. Hyra Deepthi Sindhuja and Ms. Pragnya P. Das taking second place. In the women’s badminton team championship, Talcher Thermal came out on top, while NTPC Bongaigaon took second place. Team Darlipalli was shown the trophy for fair play.

The volleyball competition was won by Talcher Kaniha and placed second by NTPC Bongaigaon. Individually, NTPC Bongaigaon’s Shri Kaki Nagareddy was chosen Best Smasher, Talcher Kaniha’s Shri Sanjay Sahoo was selected Best Setter, and Talcher Kaniha’s Shri Sudharshan Sahoo was named Best Libero. Team North Karanpura was presented with the Fair Play Trophy in the sport of volleyball.

At the closing ceremony, Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M) of NTPC Bongaigaon, spoke to the audience and distributed awards. Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), NTPC Bongaigaon, spoke to the audience at the conclusion of the session and praised the teams’ hard work and dedication. He remarked on how important events like this are for encouraging teamwork and healthy living among workers and how much he admired the players’ passion, dedication, and sportsmanship during the competition. Shri Gupta then awarded the prizes after praising the event’s organisers and other participants for a well-run affair.

NTPC’s “AHWAHAN” strategy, which encourages health, wellness, and overall well-being among workers, includes IRSM as one of its core components. With a successful conclusion to the four-day meet, NTPC Bongaigaon demonstrated its ongoing commitment to fostering regional unity via sports, wellness, and employee and stakeholder connection.
