LPG Surge: 51 Lakh+ Cylinders Supplied in a Day, No Shortage Reported

There have been no reports of dry-outs at distributorships and over 51 lakh household cylinders were supplied on April 4, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, who stated on Sunday that LPG supplies are stable nationwide.

There has been a dramatic increase in digital usage, with online LPG bookings reaching 95% and delivery authentication code (DAC)-based deliveries reaching 90%, up from 53% in February. This ensures transparency and prevents diversion.

The demand for smaller cylinders is on the rise; sales of 5-kilogram LPG cylinders reached 90,000 units in a single day, bringing the total sales since March 23 to almost 6.6 lakh units. These cylinders are more accessible since they do not require verification of address.

The ministry also brought attention to the fast growth of piped gas infrastructure, noting that over 3.9 lakh new registrations have been recorded since March and 3.6 lakh PNG connections have been gasified. The government has once again urged its citizens to not buy in a hurry or make needless LPG reservations; instead, they should use online resources instead of going to distributors.

In an effort to reduce household energy use, prosumer nuclear gas (PNG), induction, and electric cooktops have been promoted. The situation was reviewed by the Petroleum Secretary with the states and UTs, who were instructed to prioritise the distribution of needed LPG and to remain vigilant against hoarding, diversion, and misinformation.

Public are asked to depend solely on official information, as authorities have reiterated that the supply of LPG is sufficient and uninterrupted, even for migrating populations.
