Inside SECL’s Sustainable Mining Drive: Media Delegation Gets First-Hand View

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) is hosting a four-day national media press tour from February 20th to the 23rd, 2026. The group met with SECL’s upper management at their Bilaspur headquarters after their arrival.

Addressing the gathering, Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of SECL, highlighted the ongoing importance of coal in India’s energy environment. In particular, he brought attention to the fact that coal is still used to generate more than 70% of India’s electricity. When it comes to India’s energy security, SECL is crucial, since it produces approximately 20% of the country’s coal. These interactions were attended by senior journalists from many news organisations, including DD News, The Hindu, Zed Business, Business Today, V6 News, Andhra Jyothi, and NTV.

At the session, CMD Shri Harish Duhan was joined by N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical/Operations), Himanshu Jain, Chief Vigilance Officer, and top department heads from SECL. As it continues to propel India’s progress, SECL reaffirms its commitment to open operations, responsible mining, environmental protection, and equitable development.
