IndiGo Refund Status : Over ₹610 Crore Returned to Flyers After Cancellations

Low-cost airline IndiGo has refunded ₹610 crore to passengers affected by cancelled or heavily delayed flights after the government directed the carrier to complete all pending refunds by 8 p.m. on Sunday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.

According to the official statement, no additional charges can be imposed on passengers rescheduling their disrupted travel plans. Dedicated support cells have been set up to assist travellers and ensure that refund and rebooking issues are resolved quickly and smoothly.

The ministry added that IndiGo’s operational performance has improved steadily, with flight schedules returning to normal. The airline increased its operations from 706 flights on Friday to 1,565 on Saturday, and is expected to reach up to 1,650 flights by the end of Sunday. All other domestic airlines continue to operate at full capacity without disruptions.

In response to a surge in demand and a temporary spike in airfares following widespread cancellations, the government enforced immediate fare caps to maintain fairness and affordability. Since the implementation of the revised fare limits, prices on affected routes have stabilised, and airlines have been instructed to adhere strictly to the new structure.

The ministry also directed IndiGo to trace and deliver all mishandled baggage within 48 hours, with continuous communication to passengers. As of Saturday, the airline has returned 3,000 pieces of baggage across the country.

Airport Directors from major hubs—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Goa—confirmed normal operations on Sunday, reporting smooth passenger movement and no congestion. On-ground support has been strengthened with increased monitoring and timely deployment of staff by airport operators and CISF.

The MoCA’s 24×7 Control Room continues to supervise flight operations, airport conditions, and passenger support, ensuring quick response to traveller concerns and full compliance with operational standards.

The ministry reiterated that it has taken swift and decisive action to address the IndiGo operational crisis and restore stability across the aviation network. All corrective measures will remain in place until operations return fully to normal. Vigilant monitoring will continue to safeguard passenger rights and ensure smooth travel, it added.
