India–US Partnership Gains Momentum After High-Level Misri–Patel Meet

While in Washington, DC, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has been leading a number of high-level interactions that have strengthened the United States and India’s Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

During a crucial meeting, Misri and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in areas such as commerce, defence, vital minerals, and multilateral platforms like the Quad. In light of next month’s anticipated visit by Rubio to India, the encounter serves as a signal of the ongoing momentum in India-US strategic engagement.

Misri met with FBI Director Kash Patel in a major security-focused conversation to reflect growing cooperation in internal security and to increase cooperation on counter-terrorism, organised crime, and narcotics control.

Coordinating bilateral priorities and evaluating global and regional trends, especially in West Asia in light of persistent geopolitical concerns, were the main topics of subsequent meetings with Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

Coordination in the areas of economy and technology continued to be of equal importance. During discussions with Jacob Helberg, the Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, the two parties reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation through programs like Pax Silica, with a focus on AI, vital minerals, and wider technological alliances.

While in Washington, Misri spoke with policy think tanks to explore the future of India-US relations, touching on topics including energy, food, and economic security as well as the possibilities and threats posed by the changing global order.

Amidst a difficult global geopolitical context, the engagements highlight a wide-ranging growth of India-US cooperation, encompassing defence, security, economics, and technology.
