In just over a year, something remarkable has happened across India. Since the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in February 2024, nearly 10,000 MW of rooftop solar capacity has been installed. That’s not just a statistic—it’s millions of households finally taking control of their electricity bills.
What makes this scheme truly special is how it’s reaching people. The government has made the entire process digital and hassle-free. Families can apply through a national portal, receive subsidies directly in their bank accounts, and even access collateral-free loans at around 5.75% interest from nationalized banks. No middlemen. No delays. Just clean energy within reach.
The numbers tell an inspiring story. Once installations reach one crore households, they’re expected to generate 1,000 billion units of renewable electricity and slash 720 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over 25 years. But beyond the environmental impact, this is about people and livelihoods. The scheme is projected to create 17 lakh jobs—in manufacturing, logistics, installations, and even financial services.
Meanwhile, India is quietly becoming a green hydrogen powerhouse. Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, production capacity is expected to hit 5 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030, with around 8,000 tonnes already commissioned. The goal? To make India a global hub for green hydrogen production, utilisation, and export.
At its heart, this isn’t just about energy policy. It’s about empowering families, creating jobs, and building a cleaner, more self-reliant India—one rooftop at a time.
