How PMMSY is Scaling Deep-Sea Fishing through New Cooperative Partnerships in 2026

Funded at Rs 20,050 crore for FY 2020-21, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is an initiative of the Ministry of Cooperation and the Department of Fisheries that aims to increase the involvement of small-scale fishermen in deep-sea fishing and value-chain development.

Financing the acquisition and improvement of deep-sea vessels, as well as strengthening fishing cooperatives and Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs), is the goal of this programme, which seeks to empower traditional fishers.

To further support coastal lifestyles and sustainable resource management, the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF) provides concessional financing for fishery infrastructure, including fishing harbours and cold chain systems, amounting to Rs 7,522.48 crore.
