Rumours of a statewide lockdown have been explicitly denied by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who claims that the Indian government is not considering any such idea.
Puri said in a statement on X that the government is keeping a close eye on worldwide trends in energy, supply chains, and basic commodities while guaranteeing the continuous availability of vital resources.
He highlighted that India is still equipped to deal with new problems by aggressive and coordinated actions under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
“There are no lockdown rumours in India. Puri urged people to maintain their composure and refrain from disseminating false information, saying, “There is no such proposal under consideration.”
The clarification coincides with increased conjecture brought on by disruptions in the world’s oil and gas supply and worries about the availability of LPG. The government has reaffirmed that it has no intention of restricting economic activity or public mobility.
Additionally, officials explained that the Prime Minister’s recent comments about “preparedness” were misunderstood. These remarks were not a sign of lockdown procedures; rather, they were stated in the context of contingency planning related to tensions in West Asia and their possible economic consequences.
Although authorities emphasised that present preparation activities are restricted to administrative preparations, analogies to the COVID-19 lockdown in India contributed to the spread of misinformation.
The government urged for responsible communication and reaffirmed India’s ability to handle global uncertainty while cautioning that false information during such times can undermine public trust and cause needless panic.
