Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that the Indian government will introduce AI-based solutions to tackle grid congestion and reduce renewable energy curtailment, ensuring cleaner power reaches its destination without wastage.
Speaking at the AI Impact Summit, Joshi emphasized the urgent need to manage grid stability and minimize curtailment—a challenge that often prevents generated renewable energy from being transmitted and utilized effectively.
To strengthen energy storage infrastructure, the government is working to bring down the cost of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) through viability gap funding. With India’s battery storage requirement projected to reach 411 gigawatts by 2032, this step is crucial for round-the-clock renewable energy availability.
Joshi also highlighted ongoing digital innovations, including the “One Solar” web application and advanced modeling tools to improve power distribution efficiency. In a significant international collaboration, India has formed a joint offshore wind task force with the UK, reinforcing its commitment to clean energy transition.
