Government Steps In to Help Stranded Flyers, Coordinates with Airlines and Regulators

On 2 March, the government stated that it is in constant communication with aviation authorities, airport operators, airlines, and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to guarantee safe operations, the orderly restoration of services, and the assistance of impacted passengers in light of the changing airspace situation in the Middle East.

Minister Rammohan Naidu of Civil Aviation, Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha of Civil Aviation, and other high-ranking officials met to assess the situation.

International flight operations are being constantly monitored by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, which is also examining the impact of developments in the Middle East.

By gradually restoring long-haul and ultra-long-haul services using alternate routings that avoid restricted airspace, Indian carriers have made calibrated scheduling changes. Efforts are being made to stabilise operations by moving aircraft and crew.

Airlines are cooperating with international aviation authorities and Indian embassies overseas to ensure the safe and orderly transportation of delayed passengers and are deploying extra capacity to support them.

In collaboration with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, IndiGo has planned ten special relief flights from Jeddah to India for March 3, pending regulatory clearances and current airspace conditions.

Based on operational feasibility, foreign carriers operating between the Gulf region and India are also performing limited services.

Airline companies are being urged by the government to keep communication open, comply with refund and rescheduling policies, and offer all required support to passengers, who are emphasised as the top priority.

Official updates are the only ones that passengers should trust; thus, they are advising passengers to contact airlines directly before going to airports to check flight status.
