Government of India Rolls Out Major Administrative Reshuffle Across Ministries

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Department of Financial Services, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers (MoCF) were among the important ministries whose top secretaries were appointed in a massive administrative shakeup on Tuesday by the Centre.

In a significant development, Sanjay Jaju will now assume the position Kumar had held at the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region; Chanchal Kumar, who is currently Secretary in that same ministry, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has named Sanjay Lohiya as Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services. On May 31, 2026, Nagaraju Maddirala will retire, and he will take over from there.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, who was previously the chief executive officer of India’s unique identification authority, has succeeded Srivatsa Krishna as secretary of the ministry responsible for tourism. After Chandra Sekhar Kumar’s appointment as chief executive officer of the National Rainfed Area Authority in the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), Krishna has been transferred to the position of secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA).

Previously held by Nivedita Shukla Verma, Tejveer Singh is now the Secretary of the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals within the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers (MoCF). Verma will also oversee the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare in addition to her role as Secretary of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions (MoPPGP).

Moreover, the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has appointed Narendra Bhooshan as Secretary of the Department of Land Resources, and the Department of Rural Development has appointed Rohit Kansal to succeed Shailesh Kumar Singh, who is retiring.

The position of Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) has been filled by Bharat Harbanslal Khera, who was appointed Officer on Special Duty. When Subhas Chandra Lal Das retires on April 30, he will be succeeded by him.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has appointed Abhishek Singh to the position of Director General of the National Testing Agency, reporting to the Secretary, in a significant appointment.

In addition, Sanjay Rastogi and Sajjan Singh Yadav were in-situ promoted to the position of Special Secretary with the rank and salary of Secretary to the Government by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Administrative efficiency and sector-specific leadership continuity are two goals of the shakeup.
