FICCI Appoints Anant Swarup as Secretary General

The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has appointed Mr Anant Swarup as its Secretary General, effective 14th April 2026, reinforcing the organisation’s senior leadership at a pivotal moment for Indian industry.

Swarup brings to the role over three decades of distinguished experience in public policy, trade remedies, logistics, regulatory reform, and international negotiations, having served in various leadership positions across the Government of India and, recently, in the private sector.

A 1992-batch Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS) officer, Mr Swarup has served in key positions such as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Director General of Trade Remedies, Executive Director to the Union Minister of Railways, and First Secretary representing India at the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva.

Swarup holds a Masters’ Certificate in Sustainable Infrastructure and Finance, an MBA, an LLB, and an MSc and BSc in Zoology.

His appointment strengthens FICCI’s senior leadership, with Ms Jyoti Vij continuing to serve as Director General.

FICCI, India’s oldest and largest apex business organisation, represents the interests of industry and commerce across sectors and geographies, and steers policy advocacy, industry engagement, and institutional priorities across its national and international mandates. The strengthened leadership team is expected to advance FICCI’s agenda at a time when India’s is pursuing global competitiveness and ambitious economic transformation.
