BHEL’s Renewable Portfolio Grows with New 382 MW Sunni Dam Project Contract

Leading public sector power producer SJVN Limited has made a substantial advancement in developing the 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project. For the vital Electro-Mechanical (E&M) activities of the project, the business has contracted with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for ₹837.43 Crores.

Director (Personnel), Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma of SJVN was present for the agreement’s formalisation. Ravi Rajan, Executive Director (ECD) of SJVN, and Ritu Raj, Senior General Manager (SGM) of M/s BHEL, were among the senior officials from both companies who signed it.  The project’s Civil and Hydro-Mechanical works, which were granted in January 2023, are already moving forward at full speed, according to Ajay Kumar Sharma. As a huge step toward integrating all important parts of the project, BHEL has been awarded the E&M package.

The Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project spans the Satluj River in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla and Kullu districts; it is a diurnal storage run-of-the-river scheme. When fully operational, the project’s dam-toe surface powerhouse will produce around 1,381.77 million units of renewable electricity per year. As part of its mission to increase renewable energy capacity in India, SJVN has undertaken this project. The nation’s energy security and its ambitious climate action goals will be bolstered by the substantial contribution of the generated clean power to the national grid.
