As part of a consortium led by BHEL and TRSL, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has started supplying underslung traction transformers for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project, advancing its ‘Make in India’ initiatives in the rail transportation industry.
This accomplishment was celebrated with a flag-off event at BHEL’s Jhansi factory, where important BHEL directors virtually inaugurated the first batch of transformers. With transformers being sent to Kolkata for assembly, this step strengthens BHEL’s entry into the semi-high-speed propulsion market. The transformers can operate at up to 160 kmph and have a design speed of 180 kmph.
Furthermore, BHEL Jhansi has expanded beyond rolling stock by securing an order for Rail Borne Maintenance Vehicles (RBMV). These RBMVs, which are essential for maintaining railway infrastructure, are a reflection of the government’s efforts to promote domestic manufacturing and independence.
They are made to reduce labour intensity while increasing track safety and accuracy. As a leading energy and infrastructure manufacturing company, BHEL is essential to India’s efforts to indigenise sophisticated rolling stock and transportation technologies.
