BEL Lands ₹1,950 Cr Radar Deal, Signals Strong Order Book

Two state-of-the-art Mountain Radar systems will be purchased for the Indian Air Force by the Ministry of Defence India from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for ₹1,950 crore.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India are government programs that aim to encourage economic independence, and this contract falls under the “Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)” category.

The Electronics and Radar Development Establishment, a vital branch of the Defence Research and Development Organization, has developed the radar systems indigenously, and BEL is in charge of production and shipment.

Deploying these technologies is intended to greatly improve India’s air defence network and overall national security framework by increasing surveillance capabilities in hilly regions.

In addition to bolstering the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem, the procurement will encourage indigenous design, decrease dependency on imports, and drive technological innovation within the sector.
