India Names Prashant Pise as New Ambassador to Oman

An experienced member of the Indian Foreign Service, Prashant Pise has been selected by India’s Ministry of External Affairs to serve as the country’s ambassador to Oman. Pise is scheduled to take up his new role soon.

Godavarthi Venkata Srinivas will be succeeded in Muscat by Pise, an IFS officer from the 1995 class. At the Ministry of External Affairs, he is the current Additional Secretary (Emigration Policy and Welfare).

For more than 20 years, Pise has served in important diplomatic roles around the world. Before serving as Deputy Secretary for Eurasia and UN economic and social affairs, he had earlier posts in Cairo (1997–2000) and Tripoli (2000–2004).

Beyond his time as Deputy High Commissioner to Mauritius, he was a Counsellor (Political) in Tokyo. His previous positions include that of Deputy Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Ambassador to Tunisia, both of which he held from 2016 to 2019.

Recent ambassadorial posts held by Pise in Iraq (2021) and Slovenia (2024) highlight his wide-ranging expertise in Europe and West Asia.

The High-Level Dialogue on Migration and Mobility in New Delhi in 2025 and the Abu Dhabi Dialogue in Dubai (2026) were two examples of his strong participation in multilateral engagements, when he led India’s team.

With his appointment, India’s ties with Oman—a crucial partner in the Gulf region—are further strengthened, both strategically and economically, as well as with its diaspora.
