₹132.51 Crore Boost: Govt Clears Key Port Connectivity Project at Kandla

The construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at LC-235 at Deendayal Port Authority has been approved by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Sarbananda Sonowal. This is a major step towards enhancing port-led growth in the country. The anticipated cost of the project is ₹132.51 crore.

An essential component of the Sagarmala Programme, the project is in line with the goals of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which seeks to improve logistical efficiency and multi-modal connectivity nationwide. Currently, Western Railway is constructing the project on a deposit basis.

“This project reflects our commitment to modern, efficient and seamless port-led connectivity under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remarked at the event. Improved cargo flow, stronger logistical efficiency, and the elimination of crucial bottlenecks are all outcomes of the ROB at Deendayal Port. We are constructing an integrated infrastructure that facilitates faster trade, increases security, and backs up economic growth in accordance with the Sagarmala Programme and Prime Minister Gati Shakti. This solidifies India’s status as a major marine hub on a worldwide scale and is a major milestone in the development of first-rate port facilities.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways presided over a meeting of the Delegated Investment Board (DIB) that recently evaluated the application. To make sure the updated project budget complies with current safety regulations and technical requirements, it was thoroughly reviewed.

To alleviate current port logistical limitations, the planned ROB is an essential infrastructure intervention. The project would greatly enhance operational efficiency at Deendayal Port by facilitating smooth movement across the rail crossing, which will eliminate bottlenecks and guarantee the continual flow of cargo heading for the port. Congestion will be reduced, cargo will be able to be evacuated faster, and the country’s maritime logistics chain will be strengthened once it is finished.

The Ministry has also ordered all major ports to upload project maps to the PM Gati Shakti portal, in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of coordinated and integrated infrastructure development. Better synchronisation of multi-modal connection projects, improved inter-agency collaboration, and accelerated infrastructure development nationwide are all goals of this strategy.
