Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Sunday that the current Union Budget has allotted ₹17,366 crore for railway construction in Gujarat, which is a substantial increase compared to prior years.
After launching the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference-2026 at Mahatma Mandir, Vaishnaw made the comment that the state’s railway infrastructure is experiencing rapid growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He pointed out that from 2009 to 2014, Gujarat received an average yearly allocation of ₹589 crore, which is lower than the record amount this year.
In order to modernise the network, expand capacity, and improve passenger facilities, the state is now executing railway projects totalling 1.28 lakh crore, according to the minister.
With 21 projects finished so far, 87 stations in Gujarat have been chosen for the Amrit Station Scheme, which aims to transform them into first-rate facilities. Some important stations, like Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Surat, Una, and Somnath, are undergoing redevelopment.
According to Vaishnaw, the government is gearing up to put the bullet train project into action next year along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail track. By allowing vehicles to reach speeds of up to 350 km/h, the corridor will supposedly shorten the trip time between the two cities to just 1 hour and 57 minutes. He also mentioned that Japanese officials had recently evaluated the work and were satisfied.
