An Agreement Signed between GAIL and MOL to Power India’s Energy Supply Chain

A long-term charter agreement for the LNG carrier “GAIL BHUWAN” was signed by GAIL (India) Limited and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd (MOL) on January 27, 2026, during India Energy Week in Goa.

In the presence of GAIL’s CMD and other dignitaries, S. Bairagi of GAIL and Hisashi Umemura of MOL formally endorsed the agreement, which aims to improve LNG transportation and energy logistics.

In line with the “Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047,” this collaboration, which is a joint venture with LNG Japonica Shipping Corporation Limited, represents a major improvement in India’s maritime and energy supply chain capabilities.

The partnership is a step towards a decarbonised society because both GAIL and MOL are dedicated to net-zero emission ambitions. With more than 18,001 km of natural gas pipes and a broad portfolio in LNG shipping and infrastructure, GAIL is a major player in India’s natural gas industry.

With the biggest LNG fleet in the country, it is a top LNG portfolio marketer and can guarantee a steady supply to satisfy India’s growing demand. In the meantime, MOL has incorporated a regional strategy into its BLUE ACTION 2035 management plan, emphasising Asia’s economic expansion and fortifying its commercial relationships with GAIL to assist energy transport and logistics infrastructure in the face of India’s rising natural gas demand.
