Visakhapatnam Railway Station Gets Its Own Humanoid Robot

Indian Railways has installed a humanoid robot at Visakhapatnam Railway Station called “ASC ARJUN”, which is a major step towards enhancing passenger safety, security, and service delivery.

On the Indian Railways network, this deployment is a first of its sort. It displays the organisation’s dedication to implementing cutting-edge technologies for the convenience and security of the general population. In order to support station operations, especially during periods of high passenger volume, the humanoid robot will collaborate with RPF staff.

Senior Divisional Security Commandant (RPF) A.K. Dubey was present when Inspector General (RPF) Shri Alok Bohra and Divisional Railway Manager Shri Lalit Bohra unveiled the robot. The event emphasised Indian Railways’ focus on indigenous growth and innovation-led solutions.

Using indigenous technology, ASC ARJUN was entirely conceived and developed in Visakhapatnam. To complete this project, a committed crew worked nonstop for over a year, showcasing Indian Railways’ increasing capacity to incorporate cutting-edge systems into routine operations.

With its Face Recognition System (FRS), AI-based crowd surveillance, and real-time notifications to RPF control rooms, the humanoid robot can help detect intrusions. It can guide travellers and raise awareness of safety and security issues by automatically making public announcements in Telugu, Hindi, and English.

ASC ARJUN can patrol platforms around the clock with semi-autonomous navigation along predetermined routes and obstacle avoidance, enabling efficient monitoring while maximising the use of personnel. Additionally, the robot has smoke and fire detecting devices to allow for prompt emergency action.

ASC ARJUN was created with passenger engagement in mind, providing a user-friendly interface for information and support as well as welcoming gestures like ‘Namaste’ for passengers and salutes for RPF members.

Indian Railways is still committed to using technology and local ingenuity to make the nation’s railways safer, more secure, and more passenger-friendly.
