GAIL Gas Limited has announced a reduction in the prices of domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by Rs 1 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM) and Rs 1 per kg, effective January 1, across its authorized areas in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.
The decision, aligned with the Government of India’s gas-based economy vision, is intended to promote the use of clean fuels. The Chief Executive Officer of GAIL Gas pointed out that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) are implementing policies to support growth in the CNG and PNG market.
Upcoming revisions to the Unified Tariff from January 1, 2026, are expected to further reduce transportation costs. GAIL Gas Limited operates City Gas Distribution networks in 16 geographical areas and is a subsidiary of GAIL (India) Limited, which reported robust revenue growth and profitability in the second quarter of FY 2025-26.
A recent Crisil report indicates that city gas distribution companies are likely to see an operating profit increase of 8-12% this fiscal year, reflecting a recovery after previous margin declines due to changes in gas allocation mechanisms.
