Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 45 ‘Atal Canteens’ on December 25, honoring former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary.
The initiative aims to provide affordable meals at Rs 5, with the government subsidizing the actual meal value of Rs 30.
This project, fulfilling a promise from the BJP’s election manifesto, targets daily wage workers, laborers, and low-income families, serving two meals a day to nearly 1,000 people per canteen.
Anti-irregularity measures include a digital token system and CCTV monitoring, alongside stringent hygiene and safety protocols. Future plans involve expanding the network based on public feedback and generating employment through community involvement.
