Dutch FM Calls for Stronger India–Netherlands Cooperation

Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel emphasized the strong psychological alignment and cooperation between India and the Netherlands during his visit to New Delhi.

In a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, he highlighted the need for collaboration in the changing geopolitical landscape, reinforcing shared values such as democracy and the international rule-based order.

Van Weel expressed enthusiasm for a newly signed Letter of Intent focused on enhancing security and defense partnerships and advancements in new technologies. He also met with India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to finalize plans for improved defense cooperation and maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region, seeking to protect vital sea lanes.

Furthermore, discussions with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor revolved around how domestic debates influence foreign policy and the role of India on the global stage.

Van Weel’s visit included engagements with students and entrepreneurs in Mumbai, as well as discussions with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on maritime innovation, circular economy, water management, and agriculture, reflecting the intent to deepen bilateral ties.
