Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture of NLC India Limited and UPRVUNL, has begun initial mining operations at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project in Dumka district, Jharkhand, on December 19, 2025.
This project features a coal block with a capacity of 9.0 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) and reserves of 264.84 million tonnes of G10 grade coal, vital for the fuel needs of NUPPL’s Ghatampur Thermal Power Station.
The mining activity, starting with overburden removal, is integral to increasing NLCIL’s mining capacity from 50.1 MTPA to over 100 MTPA by 2030. This development aligns with India’s energy independence goals and support from key governmental figures.
NLC’s leadership emphasized the commitment to responsible mining practices and sustainable energy supply, contributing to national growth and energy security.
