The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced the winners of the first-ever Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) Awards 2025, a flagship initiative under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain (JSA: CTR) campaign. The awards will be conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, alongside the 6th National Water Awards, at a ceremony scheduled for November 18, 2025, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Launched on September 6, 2024, in Surat, Gujarat, the JSJB initiative embodies the Prime Minister’s vision of “Jan Shakti for Jal Shakti.” It aims to strengthen community-led water conservation and management through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach. Guided by the 3Cs mantra—Community, CSR, and Cost, the initiative focuses on long-term water security, sustainability, and resilience at the grassroots level.
Under JSJB 1.0, states were grouped into five zones, with each district encouraged to construct at least 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures—including rainwater harvesting systems, lake and pond rejuvenation, and stepwell restoration. For North-Eastern and hilly districts, the target was set at 3,000 structures, while municipal corporations nationwide were tasked with building 10,000.
To boost urban water conservation, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs collaborated with the Ministry of Jal Shakti, encouraging Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to create a minimum of 2,000 recharge structures each.
This year, a total of 100 awards have been announced, recognizing outstanding performers across multiple categories—

Awardees were selected based on verified data uploaded on the JSJB portal, reflecting measurable achievements in construction, rejuvenation, and maintenance of artificial groundwater recharge structures such as borewell recharge systems and rooftop rainwater harvesting units.
Against an initial target of 10 lakh structures, over 27.6 lakh have been completed, marking a major milestone in India’s water conservation efforts. The top-performing districts will receive ₹2 crore each (Category 1), followed by ₹1 crore (Category 2) and ₹25 lakh (Category 3), along with citations signed by the Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation.
The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative has successfully fostered replicable models of artificial groundwater recharge through community participation, convergence of resources, and sustainable water governance. It continues to serve as a catalyst for a water-secure and resilient India.
