Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 1,600 crore in financial assistance for flood-hit Punjab, in addition to Rs 12,000 crore already available to the state. This includes advance release of the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 for the seriously injured was also announced. PM Modi pledged comprehensive support for orphaned children under the PM CARES for Children scheme. He conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas and held a review meeting to assess damage and relief measures.
The Prime Minister emphasized a multi-dimensional recovery approach, including rebuilding homes under PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, reconstructing schools, and providing relief through PMNRF. Specific assistance will be provided to farmers for refurbishing silted or swept-away bore pumps under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, and for facilitating solar panels for micro-irrigation for diesel-run bore pumps under Per Drop More Crop guidelines.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin will extend assistance for rural house reconstruction for eligible flood-damaged households. Damaged government schools will receive support under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Extensive construction of recharge structures for water harvesting will be undertaken under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari program to enhance rainwater harvesting. The Union government has dispatched Inter-Ministerial Central teams to assess damage, with further assistance contingent on their reports.
The Prime Minister expressed condolences and solidarity with affected families, assuring close collaboration and all possible assistance from the Union Government. He also announced Rs 1,500 crore in financial assistance for Himachal Pradesh after conducting an aerial survey and review meeting there.
