Faridabad, Aug 18: NHPC Limited successfully concluded its flagship CSR initiative, Shiksha Rath 7.0, with a closing event held on 17.08.2025 in Turtuk, Nubra, Ladakh.

The event was graced by Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC as Chief Guest along with the Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Turtuk, local villagers and Self-Help Group (SHG) women. A key highlight of the event was the inauguration of homestay units developed with NHPC’s CSR support to promote border tourism and generate sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Additionally, 30 sewing machines were distributed to women who successfully completed professional tailoring training conducted in collaboration with USHA International. Certificates were awarded to acknowledge the skills and determination of the participants, marking a significant step towards women’s empowerment.

Shiksha Rath 7.0 was originally launched on 06.10.2024, under NHPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility mandate. Implemented by the Samaarambh Foundation, the initiative focused on holistic development across seven remote border villages of Ladakh namely Turtuk, Tyakshi, Thang-Chathang, Bogdang, Chalunkha, Dhotang and Thang.

The programme addressed key developmental areas including health and hygiene awareness, education, skill development and sustainable livelihoods. Notable interventions included the installation of sanitary pad vending machines to promote menstrual hygiene, enhancement of digital education infrastructure in schools, handloom training programs to preserve traditional crafts, promotion of homestays to support local entrepreneurship and the installation of a stargazing telescope in Turtuk to encourage tourism and scientific curiosity among youth.

Through Shiksha Rath 7.0, NHPC Limited continues to demonstrate its commitment to inclusive, sustainable development in some of India’s most remote and strategically significant regions.
