BEL Wins ₹770 Crore Defence Radar Contract

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth approximately ₹770 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to procure Improved Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLR-I) systems for the Indian Army. The contract was signed in New Delhi on 21 October 2026 in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh.

BEL Radar Contract to Strengthen Air Defence

The LLLR-I systems can detect and track fighter-size targets, as well as mini and micro drones. They can also prioritise aerial targets. These capabilities will enhance the Indian Army’s ability to counter the growing threat posed by Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Boost to Defence Indigenisation

The procurement marks a step towards the indigenisation of air defence platforms. It aligns with the Government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 and is expected to support India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The contract also supports the development of a resilient, self-reliant and globally competitive defence industry.
