India and the United States have discussed strengthening their India-US Defence Cooperation during a series of meetings between senior military and defence officials. US Pacific Command (USPACOM) chief Admiral Samuel Paparo met Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) Commander-in-Chief Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty to discuss military cooperation, regional security and the shared objective of promoting a safer Indo-Pacific region.
The US Embassy in India welcomed the engagement, describing it as part of efforts to deepen the India-US Major Defence Partnership. The discussions also highlighted continued cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
The engagement followed a high-level gathering of Indian and US military leaders hosted by the US Embassy at Roosevelt House in New Delhi. Participants included Admiral Paparo, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth and other senior Indian defence officials. The meeting highlighted ongoing dialogue between the two countries on defence and strategic issues.
During his visit to India, Admiral Samuel Paparo also met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh to discuss ways to deepen bilateral defence and strategic cooperation. According to the Ministry of Defence, the two sides exchanged views on regional and global developments.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also highlighted Admiral Paparo’s meetings with senior Indian military leaders. These included the Chief of Defence Staff, the Army chief, Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit and Chief of Integrated Defence Staff Air Marshal Tejinder Singh.
The engagements underline the continued focus on the India-US Major Defence Partnership, particularly military-to-military dialogue and regional security. USPACOM oversees US military activities across a vast area of the Indo-Pacific, making its engagement with Indian defence leaders an important part of bilateral strategic consultations.
The latest meetings provided an opportunity for both countries to exchange perspectives on shared security concerns and explore avenues for closer cooperation across the Indo-Pacific. They also reaffirmed the importance of continued dialogue in advancing India-US defence ties and supporting regional stability.
