India-US Trade Engagement Expands in New York

India-US trade and investment opportunities took centre stage as Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a series of meetings with senior leaders of leading US companies in New York.

The discussions focused on strengthening commercial ties between the two countries and encouraging US companies to explore investment opportunities in India. The meetings covered sectors ranging from financial services and manufacturing to technology, artificial intelligence, insurance and consumer markets.

India-US Trade and Investment Opportunities

Goyal met Jonathan Gray, President and COO of Blackstone, and Prakash Melwani, Chairman of Blackstone’s International Private Equity business. The discussions focused on expanding Blackstone’s investments and partnerships in India across key sectors.

The Minister also met George Walker, Chairman and CEO of Neuberger Berman, along with members of the company’s senior leadership team. The meeting explored opportunities to deepen investment linkages and strengthen engagement in financial and wealth management services.

With financial services emerging as an important area of bilateral engagement, the meetings also highlighted opportunities for greater participation by global financial institutions in India.

Technology and Manufacturing in Focus

Goyal held discussions with Stéphane de La Faverie, President and CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies. Their meeting focused on growth opportunities in India, including increased manufacturing and sourcing. They also discussed the expansion of India’s beauty and personal care market.

Technology was another key area of engagement. During his meeting with Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM, Goyal discussed opportunities to further strengthen IBM’s presence in India. The discussions covered artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing and other emerging technologies.

The focus on advanced technologies reflects the growing scope of cooperation between Indian and US businesses in emerging technology and digital infrastructure.

India-US Trade Engagement Across Financial Services

Goyal also met Michel A. Khalaf, President and CEO of MetLife. Their discussions covered the company’s growth opportunities in India and the expanding insurance and financial services sector.

The Minister met William E. Ford, Chairman and CEO of General Atlantic, to discuss opportunities to deepen the company’s investment and business engagement with India.

He also held discussions with Mark Tucker, Non-Executive Chairman of AIA Group. The meeting focused on AIA’s engagement in India and opportunities in insurance and financial services, including in the context of India’s vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

India-US Trade Ties and Investment Potential

The meetings provided an opportunity to present India’s growth prospects and investment opportunities to senior leaders from major US companies and investment firms.

The discussions covered financial services, manufacturing, energy, technology, AI and other sectors. They also explored avenues for expanding business engagement and strengthening economic and commercial ties between India and the United States.

The engagements underline the broadening scope of India-US trade and investment cooperation, with companies across multiple sectors exploring opportunities linked to India’s expanding market and economic growth.
