BPCL CSR initiatives will support a Rs 69.21 crore investment in Varanasi to redevelop 119 public parks, food street hubs and key heritage corridors. The projects will improve public spaces, tourism infrastructure and heritage assets across the city.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for the projects. The initiatives will create sustainable community assets while supporting Varanasi’s cultural and tourism infrastructure.
BPCL CSR to Redevelop 119 Public Parks
Under the first MoU, BPCL will invest Rs 48 crore in the redevelopment and beautification of 119 public parks across Varanasi.
The project will also develop food street hubs at Sarnath and Maidagin. BPCL will implement the initiative in partnership with the Kashi Integrated Parking & Recreational Foundation (KIPRF) and Varanasi Smart City Limited (VSCL).
The park redevelopment will include landscaping, walking paths and seating facilities. It will also add children’s play equipment, open gyms, lighting, horticulture and improved drainage.
The upgrades will enhance recreational facilities and civic amenities for local communities.
Food Street Hubs to Improve Public Amenities
The food street hubs at Sarnath and Maidagin will provide organised vending infrastructure.
The facilities will include water and sanitation amenities, CCTV surveillance and solar lighting. The initiative will create improved spaces for local vendors and visitors.
BPCL CSR Allocates Rs 21.21 Crore for Heritage Areas
The second MoU involves an investment of Rs 21.21 crore. BPCL has signed the agreement with the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) for the beautification of key heritage streets and precincts.
The project will cover the corridor from Thatheri Heritage Gali to Kal Bhairav Temple.
It will also include façade enhancement between Godauliya Chauraha and Maidagin Chauraha. The lane leading to Manikarnikeshwar Temple at Manikarnika Ghat will also undergo redevelopment and beautification.
Heritage Corridors to Receive Infrastructure Upgrades
The planned works will include heritage-sensitive streetscape improvements and stone paving.
The project will also cover façade treatment, lighting, signage and street furniture. Murals, public art, drainage improvements and pedestrian-friendly infrastructure will form part of the development.
The objective is to improve urban infrastructure while retaining Varanasi’s distinctive historic character.
BPCL CSR Projects to Strengthen Tourism Infrastructure
The projects are expected to improve facilities for residents, pilgrims, tourists and local vendors.
The initiatives will strengthen Varanasi’s tourism and heritage infrastructure. They will also support the preservation of the city’s cultural identity.
Both projects will have a 36-month implementation period.
Once completed, the upgraded public spaces and heritage assets are expected to support Varanasi’s development as a major cultural and spiritual tourism destination.
