Rajeev Singh Thakur, a 1995-batch IAS officer, has been appointed Chief Secretary of Manipur. The Centre approved his inter-cadre deputation from the Rajasthan cadre to Manipur.
Rajeev Singh Thakur will remain in the post until June 30, 2029, when he is scheduled to retire. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his deputation by relaxing the existing policy provisions.
Rajeev Singh Thakur Gets Additional Responsibilities
Along with serving as Chief Secretary, Rajeev Singh Thakur will hold additional charge as Chief Vigilance Commissioner.
He will also serve as Principal Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan in New Delhi.
His appointment comes as Manipur continues to focus on governance, relief and rehabilitation. The state is also working to strengthen administrative coordination.
Rajeev Singh Thakur Brings Over Three Decades of Experience
Thakur has more than three decades of administrative experience across state and Central government assignments.
During his tenure in Rajasthan, he served as District Collector of Banswara, Bhilwara, Alwar, Karauli and Sri Ganganagar. He also handled portfolios related to rural development, livelihood projects, and food and civil supplies.
At the Centre, Thakur served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Military Affairs.
He later became Additional Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).
His Central government experience also includes assignments in the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Ministry of Railways.
Thakur Served as NITI Aayog Adviser
Before his deputation to Manipur, Thakur was serving as an Adviser at NITI Aayog.
He took up the position in February 2025. His experience across state administration and key Central government departments brings extensive administrative experience to his new role as Manipur Chief Secretary.
The appointment is expected to support the state’s administrative coordination and ongoing governance priorities.
