Suman Ray RBI appointment marks a new senior leadership role for the career central banker, who has been appointed as Executive Director (ED) of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). In his new role, Ray will oversee the Department of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) and the Premises Department.
Suman Ray RBI Appointment Brings Senior Banking Experience
Before his promotion to Executive Director, Suman Ray served as Regional Director for Maharashtra at the RBI.
Ray has more than three decades of experience with the Reserve Bank. During his career, he has worked across several key areas of central banking and financial services.
His experience includes currency management, financial inclusion, payment and settlement systems, consumer education and protection, and human resources.
Ray to Oversee DICGC and Premises Department
As Executive Director, Ray will be responsible for the Department of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation and the Premises Department.
The DICGC plays an important role in India’s banking framework by providing deposit insurance coverage to eligible bank depositors. The Premises Department manages matters related to the RBI’s physical infrastructure and facilities.
Ray’s responsibilities will therefore span both banking-sector institutional functions and the RBI’s internal infrastructure operations.
Three Decades of RBI Experience
Ray has built his career within the Reserve Bank and has worked across multiple operational and policy-related functions.
His experience in financial inclusion and payment and settlement systems has given him exposure to important areas of India’s evolving financial ecosystem.
He has also worked in consumer education and protection, along with human resources and currency management.
Ray has additionally served as Secretary to the Western Area Local Board, adding to his experience in the RBI’s organisational and regional operations.
RBI Strengthens Senior Leadership
The appointment of Suman Ray as RBI Executive Director adds an experienced central banker to the institution’s senior management.
With more than 30 years of experience across diverse functions, Ray will bring broad institutional knowledge to his new responsibilities covering DICGC and the Premises Department.
