Rajnath Singh will host Shinjiro Koizumi in New Delhi this week. The meeting aims to build strategic trust between the two nations. Officials will discuss security cooperation and regional stability. The Indo-Pacific region remains a key focus area for both governments.
The two ministers will also exchange views on maritime security. They will explore closer collaboration in defence equipment and technology. This cooperation falls under the Make in India framework. Japan recently revised its Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology. This move could open new opportunities for bilateral defence-industrial partnerships.
Koizumi’s Naval Visit in Mumbai
Koizumi is making his first visit to India as Defence Minister. He visited the Western Naval Command in Mumbai on Wednesday. He met Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. He also met Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command.
Officials briefed Koizumi on the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities. He inspected a Guard of Honour during his visit. He also toured the indigenous naval ship INS Chennai.
Building on Recent Diplomatic Momentum
India and Japan share a vision for a free, open, resilient and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Koizumi’s visit follows a recent trip by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to New Delhi. Takaichi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the annual bilateral summit. Both leaders agreed to deepen defence and security ties during that meeting.
