STP Exports Rise 21.56% in Two Years to FY26

STP exports from India rose to an estimated Rs 7.73 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, up 21.56 per cent from Rs 6.36 lakh crore in FY 2023-24, according to data shared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The increase highlights continued growth in India’s software and IT-enabled services export base under the Software Technology Park (STP) Scheme.

STP Exports Record Strong Growth

Exports from STP units increased from Rs 6,36,619.87 crore in FY 2023-24 to Rs 6,88,194.11 crore in FY 2024-25. They rose further to an estimated Rs 7,73,898.97 crore in FY 2025-26.

The STP Scheme is a government initiative aimed at supporting India’s IT sector and promoting software and IT-enabled services (IT/ITeS) exports.

The scheme operates as a 100 per cent export-oriented programme. The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) also provides statutory services through a single-window clearance system under the scheme.

STP Units Increase to 2,125

The number of STP units registered with STPI increased to 2,125 in FY 2025-26 from 2,059 in FY 2023-24. The number had declined marginally to 2,042 in FY 2024-25 before rising in the latest fiscal year.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu led the number of registered STP units, with 391 units each. Maharashtra followed with 367 units, while Telangana had 280 units.

The growth in registered units points to continued activity across India’s major technology and IT services hubs.

Investment Declines Despite Export Growth

While exports increased, reported investment by STP units declined during the period.

Investment fell from Rs 10,709.92 crore in FY 2023-24 to Rs 8,870.78 crore in FY 2024-25. It declined further to Rs 7,362.86 crore in FY 2025-26.

Imports by STP units remained relatively stable. They stood at Rs 9,947.47 crore in FY 2023-24, Rs 9,482.27 crore in FY 2024-25 and Rs 9,960.26 crore in FY 2025-26.

Karnataka Leads STP Exports

Karnataka recorded the highest exports among STP units registered with STPI over the last three years. Exports from the state stood at Rs 3,50,184.78 crore.

Maharashtra followed with Rs 1,62,594.11 crore, while Telangana recorded Rs 1,13,101.83 crore.

The data highlights the continued dominance of major technology hubs in India’s STP export ecosystem. At the same time, the rise in total STP units indicates wider participation in the country’s software and IT-enabled services export sector.
