On July 23, 2026, Rajesh Pandey, an officer from the West Bengal cadre who was commissioned in 1995, officially became the 51st Chairman of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). With his nomination, DVC gains a seasoned administrator who has been around for a long time and has worked in power, public administration, and government.
With 31 years of service under his belt, Shri Pandey has been an integral part of West Bengal’s government, serving as Additional Chief Secretary for the MSME & Textiles, Personnel & Administrative Reforms, Sports & Youth Services, and Co-operation Departments, among many others. In his time as consumer affairs department secretary, he made important strides in both policymaking and administrative reform.
He has spent much of his professional life working in the energy and electricity industry. For over five years, Rajesh Pandey was the Chairman and Managing Director of WBSEDCL (West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited), in addition to his roles as Managing Director of WBSETCL and Chairman of New Town Electric Supply Co. Ltd. In addition to his work on the Governing Body of the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency (WBREDA) and as Director of Durgapur Projects Limited (DPL), he played an important role in the state’s efforts to electrify all residents and plan for the future of its power industry.
After attending IIT Kharagpur, Shri Pandey graduated with a Bachelor of Technology (Honours) degree in mechanical engineering in 1993. Following his 2008 Fulbright Fellowship for Leadership Development, which he received from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, he earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy and Management in 2010. It is believed that DVC’s position in India’s changing energy landscape will be enhanced by his combination of technical knowledge, understanding of public policy, and leadership experience.
As Damodar Valley Corporation ramps up its efforts to generate, transmit, and promote renewable energy, Rajesh Pandey’s nomination as chairman is highly significant. He is expected to contribute to DVC’s strategic growth and operational excellence with his extensive experience in the power sector and administrative roles.
