As a first major measure, the government has fired a senior bureaucrat from the Ministry of Education in response to student demands for accountability following document leaks. A government announcement stated late Thursday night that Naresh Gangwar has succeeded Vineet Joshi as secretary of education.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has appointed Joshi, who was previously the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, to the position of Secretary. Joshi assumed this role in January 2025.
As part of a massive shakeup, which also included thirteen appointments and four in-situ renovations, Joshi was let go.
Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy TK Anil Kumar was also promoted from his position as additional secretary in the Department of Rural Development as a result of the reorganisation.
Massive protests were held by opposition parties and the satirical political group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the leak of exam papers, and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was demanded. As a result, the government took this action. According to a member of the ruling party’s parliament, the Education Secretary was fired for being indifferent about the document leak problem.Due to the Education Secretary’s indifference to the paper leak crisis, Prime Minister Modi has removed her from her position. Anyone found guilty of the paper leak or who showed carelessness or indifference will face severe consequences. “Modi’s guarantee,” Nishikant Dubey, a member of the BJP, stated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised tougher punishment on Friday, and late at night, a special court was established to hear instances involving paper leaks.
