DCGI Approves Qdenga, India’s First Dengue Vaccine for Ages 4-60

The approval of Qdenga, the first dengue vaccine in India, is a major step forward in the battle against dengue fever, which is endemic to the country and spread by mosquitoes. Authorisation to sell the vaccine developed by Germany’s Takeda GmbH has been approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), which is part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. To sell the vaccine in India, Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd. will import it.

The vaccine has been scientifically evaluated for its quality, safety, and effectiveness in accordance with the requirements of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Drugs Rules, 1945, and has so been approved. To ensure the vaccine satisfies India’s safety and efficacy criteria, the regulatory evaluation was grounded in substantial clinical evidence from both international and domestic trials, as stated by the Government of Health.

Anyone from four years old to sixty-plus can get the immunisation. The recommended dosing interval is three months, and each injection of 0.5 ml is given subcutaneously. Once the freeze-dried formulation has been reconstituted, the vaccine will be administered by healthcare providers.
