MRPL Celebrates Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s 135th Birth Anniversary with Awards for Students and Social Workers

At the MRPL Employees’ Recreation Centre (MERC) in Mangaluru, the people of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) paid homage to Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his 135th birth anniversary. The event celebrated Ambedkar’s lasting impact on nation-building, social justice, equality, and constitutional values.

Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath, Managing Director of MRPL, officiated the event, and Dr. Vaddagere Nagarajaiah, eminent scholar, ethnographer, and social activist, was the special guest of honour. Attendees included Dr. B. S. Hemalatha, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department in Dakshina Kannada, and Nandakumar V. Pillai, Director (Refinery) of MRPL.

Following the ceremonial lamp lighting, the celebration commenced with the distribution of prizes, a welcoming address, and floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar. During the festivities, MRPL honoured distinguished social workers for their exceptional service to the public good and presented certificates of achievement to twenty deserving students, ten of whom had achieved a grade of 90% or above in their SSLC or PUC courses.

During his address, Nandakumar V. Pillai praised Dr. Ambedkar for his work in the fields of education, constitutional government, ethical leadership, and social justice. Dr. Vaddagere Nagarajaiah underlined the ongoing importance of equality, liberty, fraternity, and inclusive development in modern India, while Dr. B. S. Hemalatha spoke about his pioneering work to advance women’s rights and empowerment.

Mundkur Shyamprasad Kamath, in his presidential address, reiterated MRPL’s dedication to creating a progressive, egalitarian, and inclusive workplace that is motivated by the principles of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. After the program’s Vote of Thanks, M/s Sumanasa of Kodavoor, Udupi, presented the critically renowned theatrical production “EEDI,” to a standing ovation from the crowd.
