Four papers outlining options for reaching Net Zero by 2070 in the transportation, industrial, power, and essential minerals sectors have been produced by NITI Aayog.
Important findings include the following: the power sector’s share of electricity will increase from 21% in 2025 to 60% in 2070; the demand for important industrial materials like steel, cement, and aluminium is expected to increase four to six times; and recycling could supply 20 to 25 per cent of the demand for copper and graphite by the middle of the century.
Green hydrogen, electrification, and the switch to clean fuels are highlighted. NITI Aayog stresses the need to put these policies into action quickly in order to fulfil India’s potential for clean energy and economic expansion
