Narendra Modi Convenes Key Talks with CMs Over West Asia Situation

The chief ministers of India’s states will meet virtually with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assess their governments’ readiness to deal with the growing issue in West Asia.

The meeting’s overarching goal is to establish a coordinated response within the framework of the “Team India” strategy, with a particular emphasis on coordinating federal and state initiatives to mitigate the conflict’s possible economic and security consequences.

As geopolitical tensions wreak havoc on global trade routes and supply chains, the meeting is anticipated to delve into contingency planning in vital areas such as fuel supplies, logistics, fertilisers, and crucial commodities.

A separate meeting is being organised for Chief Secretaries through the Cabinet Secretariat, and chief ministers of states that are going to hold elections will not be participating because of the model code of conduct.

The meeting was held after the administration updated political leaders on the developing situation at an all-party conference at the Parliament of India, which was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. On the panel were senior ministers such as Kiren Rijiju, S. Jaishankar, Amit Shah, and Hardeep Singh Puri.

In an effort to lessen the blow of the continuing Iran-Israel-US war, the administration had earlier announced the establishment of seven empowered committees to devise plans spanning vital sectors like petroleum, supply chains, and fertilisers.

Indian people in Gulf countries are understandably worried about their safety and the impact of regional tensions on maritime routes; thus, the summit is anticipated to be pivotal in establishing a consensus and enhancing India’s coordinated response mechanism.
