Indian Railways Mizoram 2026: New Cold Chain Parcel Vans Launched to Support Perishable Cargo Transport

To help local farmers and traders reach more customers, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has added refrigerated parcel van services to its parcel logistics network. These vans can deliver horticulture and other perishable goods from Mizoram.

The introduction of passenger and freight train services has greatly enhanced mobility for both passengers and commodities throughout the state, which has boosted economic growth and promoted tourism, according to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the chief public relations officer of NFR.

This news follows NITI Aayog’s recent designation of Mizoram as the “Ginger Capital of India” in honour of the state’s stellar reputation for ginger and its meteoric rise to ginger production prominence.

The 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2025, greatly improved train connectivity in the state. Aizawl, the capital of the state, was linked to the national railway network for the first time by this project.

Additionally, goods’ operations have been picking up speed. Improving supply chain logistics for vital commodities, the inaugural foodgrain cargo train from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) arrived at Sairang railway station on March 3, 2026, with 42 waggons carrying around 25,900 quintals of rice from Punjab.
