Government Eases GST Refunds on Small E-Commerce Export Shipments

The GST Council has approved the elimination of the value threshold for GST refunds on low-value e-commerce exports, amending the CGST Act 2017 to allow refunds regardless of consignment value.

This reform is expected to simplify procedures and improve cash flow for small exporters, especially those using courier or postal services. Additionally, the government has implemented GST rate rationalisation across various sectors, including textiles, paper, leather, and commercial vehicles, with rate reductions to as low as 5% or from 28% to 18%.

These measures aim to lower production and logistics costs, boost export competitiveness, support MSMEs by easing liquidity, correct inverted duty structures, and ensure cost benefits are passed on to consumers.
