Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils ₹90,000 Crore Railway Development Roadmap for Odisha

Ashwini Vaishnaw, during a recent address, emphasized the significant transformation underway in Odisha’s railway infrastructure. He highlighted that projects exceeding ₹90,000 crore are currently being executed, representing one of the largest expansion phases in the state’s rail network.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for India’s first advanced 3D glass semiconductor packaging unit in Bhubaneswar, the minister noted that this substantial investment demonstrates the Centre’s commitment to expanding both passenger and freight capacities.

During the visit, Vaishnaw reviewed the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station, directing officials to expedite execution and ensure high-quality delivery. He noted that upgraded stations are being designed with airport-like amenities to improve passenger experience and align with evolving expectations.

The minister also assessed progress on the proposed elevated corridor on the eastern side of the station, instructing authorities to resolve pending issues on priority to accelerate completion timelines.

Highlighting budgetary support, Vaishnaw stated that Odisha has received a record railway allocation of ₹10,928 crore, significantly higher than in previous years, enabling faster project execution. Additionally, 59 stations across the state are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

In terms of connectivity, the government aims to bring all 30 districts of Odisha under the rail network, thereby improving access to remote regions and supporting inclusive development. Key projects include the proposed four-line coastal rail corridor from Balasore to Berhampur, expected to enhance capacity, reduce congestion, and strengthen logistics efficiency along the eastern corridor.

The minister said these initiatives will not only improve regional mobility but also drive economic growth by integrating Odisha more closely with national freight and passenger networks, positioning the state as a major beneficiary of India’s ongoing railway infrastructure expansion.
