GST Collections See 22.9% Growth as Import Revenue Jumps 42.2%

India’s GST collections rose 22.9% year-on-year to ₹2.31 lakh crore in October 2026, compared with ₹1.88 lakh crore in October 2025, according to provisional government data. Strong domestic economic activity and higher tax revenue from imports supported the growth. After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue increased 25.6% to ₹2.03 lakh crore from ₹1.61 lakh crore a year earlier.

GST Collections Record Strong Domestic and Import Growth

Domestic GST revenue increased 15.8% year-on-year to ₹1.59 lakh crore in October. This included Central GST (CGST) collections of ₹42,935 crore, State GST (SGST) of ₹51,340 crore and domestic Integrated GST (IGST) of ₹64,769 crore.

Revenue from imports recorded a sharper increase of 42.2% to ₹72,246 crore, compared with ₹50,796 crore in October 2025. Higher import-related IGST collections contributed significantly to the overall growth in gross revenue during the month.

Cumulative GST Collections Rise 13.2% in FY27

The growth trend continued in the cumulative figures for the first seven months of FY27. Gross GST collections during April-October FY27 increased 13.2% to ₹14.77 lakh crore, compared with ₹13.05 lakh crore in the corresponding period last year.

Net GST revenue for the same period grew 12.6% to ₹12.69 lakh crore from ₹11.27 lakh crore, reflecting sustained growth in tax collections during the financial year.

Refunds Increase 6.5% in October

Total GST refunds rose 6.5% year-on-year to ₹27,934 crore in October, compared with ₹26,225 crore a year earlier. Domestic refunds increased 9.8% to ₹14,007 crore, while export refunds processed through the Indian Customs Electronic Gateway (ICEGATE) grew 3.4% to ₹13,927 crore.

After accounting for refunds, net domestic GST revenue stood at ₹1.45 lakh crore, registering 16.4% growth. Net customs-related GST revenue recorded a stronger increase of 56.2% to ₹58,319 crore.

For April-October FY27, total refunds increased 16.9% to ₹2.08 lakh crore. This included domestic refunds of ₹1.18 lakh crore and import-related refunds of ₹89,733 crore.

The 22.9% rise in GST collections in October reflects stronger domestic revenue and a significant increase in import-related tax collections. Cumulative gross collections also maintained double-digit growth during the first seven months of FY27.
