In accordance with the Union Budget 2026, Indian Railways has accelerated the construction of the Dankuni-Surat Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
The minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stressed the need for completing this 2,100 km corridor on schedule so that goods can be more efficiently moved across other states. For improved planning, it is the responsibility of DFCCIL authorities to revise the detailed project report with revised timetables and cost projections.
There will be high-capacity electrification, improved signalling systems for safety and throughput, and no level crossings. The Railway Board is updated weekly on the status of the pre-construction works, which are being prioritised in order to prevent delays.
