A ₹454.95 crore order has been secured by RailTel Corporation of India Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, to implement the Kavach system across 1,067 route kilometres (RKM) in the Jabalpur Division of West Central Railway. This is a significant achievement in railway safety and modernisation.
To improve operational reliability and passenger safety, the Indian Railways implemented their own automatic train protection (ATP) system called ‘Kavach’. This system detects and stops trains from colliding, going too fast, and Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD). Surveying, designing, supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning trackside Kavach systems throughout high-density and vital routes of the Jabalpur Division are all part of the project, which is to be carried out under EPC mode. Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) works, tower erection, and related civil, track, and electrical works are also included in the scope, as is the installation of Kavach equipment at stations, level crossing gates, and Intermediate Block Signalling (IBS) locations.
According to the EPC agreement, the whole project is expected to be finished in 960 days. In line with the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Kavach is a major project of the Indian Railways. Safer, smarter, and more tech-driven rail operations are being made possible by RailTel through the deployment of indigenous safety systems.
Already, RailTel has two Kavach projects underway under the East Central Railway, spanning 1,109 route miles.
As a proud occasion for RailTel, this important Kavach order from West Central Railway is a strong recognition of our expertise in delivering critical railway safety infrastructure,” said Shri Sanjai Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director of RailTel. Using indigenous solutions, RailTel will continue to support the national mission of safer, smarter, and technology-driven train operations through the Kavach programme, which is a game-changer for Indian Railways. With a full suite of telecom, IT, signalling, and digital solutions, RailTel operates Tier III data centres, a Security Operation Centre, and telecom licences (IP-1, NLD, and ISP). They also provide cloud services with MeitY as an empanelment.
This large Kavach order solidifies RailTel’s role as a key technological collaborator in India’s effort to upgrade and modernise its railways while also enhancing safety.
